Every avid traveler has probably heard of and even used the Airbnb platform.
With millions of listings worldwide, the platform has become the go-to option for travelers looking for local experiences.
That said, as with all things, not all Airbnb stays always go as planned. That’s where today’s funny reviews come in.
At times, despite the hosts’ best efforts, things can go awry, leaving the guests with some hilarious stories to tell.
With that in mind, let’s dive into the realm of Airbnb’s funny reviews and see what we can dig up.
Review 1 – The “Paper-thin” Walls
It seems this property’s host promised sufficient privacy and comfy amenities.
Unfortunately, he promised more than he could deliver, because this is what the guest had to say.
“If by ‘comfortable’ this host meant ‘being able to hear every word the neighbors were saying, then yeah! This property was as comfortable as they come.
The walls were so thin that sometimes I could hear the neighbors arguing about who left the toilet seat up.
And do not even get me started on the bathroom that was separated from the kitchen by a curtain.”
Review 2 – The Friendly Review
This 2nd funny Airbnb review is from a couple that didn’t quite make it to their travel destination. However, the guest was still kind enough to leave a positive, funny review.
Here it is.
“My boyfriend and I fought before our travel so we did not visit this accommodation in the end.
He dumped me the following week. So, I’m only leaving this review because Airbnb keeps asking me to. I’m confident this place is lovely.”
Review 3 – The “Enchanting” Treehouse
The treehouse this guest visited was advertised as an “enchanting treehouse.” Like with most reviews here, the guest found the reality wasn’t as nearly as magical.
Here is the funny Airbnb review they left behind:
“I do not comprehend the kind of enchantment this host was going for.
The only enchantment that was apparent to me, however, is how long the treehouse had managed to stay standing.
The ladder was extremely rickety, and the walls were paper-thin.”
Review 4 – The “Absent” Host
Unlike most reviews on this list, this one was left by the property’s host. The review sounds nice and standard, but its hilarity is evident after the guest’s response to the review.
“Chinh was an inspiring individual, and I have no issue recommending her as a guest. She is the kind of guest you’d love to see staying with you.
She is full of knowledge and fascinating ideas, and she is self-sufficient. I’d love to welcome her back again to my home sometime in the future.”
The issue is, according to Chinh, she and this host never met or even spoke.
Review 5 – The “Charming” Farmhouse
It seems this Airbnb listing promised “modern amenities” at a charming farmhouse:
“The most memorable experience during my stay was when the host’s cows came mooing through the front door at 5 am.
Plus, I guess the host referred to the ‘outhose and jug of water’ when he mentioned ‘modern amenities.’
Anyway, if you are looking for a rustic and authentic farm experience, this is the property for you.”
Review 6 – The House That Wasn’t There
This review’s listing claimed to be a “secluded, charming cabin in the woods.” When the guest arrived, however, the cabin wasn’t exactly what had been promised.
Here’s the hilarious Airbnb review they left behind:
“I really looked forward to a relaxing night in a secluded cabin in the woods. When I arrived at the address, however, there wasn’t anything there.
I called the hostess, and she said, “Oh, my apologies, the cabin burned down four days ago.
Sorry, I’ll refund you right away, and apologies for any inconvenience caused. Hey, at least the hostess was super nice!”
Review 7 – The “Comfy” Apartment
The review below is for a property that promised a “comfy experience” in a national reserve. The guest, however, found the reality was quite far from comfortable.
Here is the funny review left behind by the guest:
“I’ve stayed in lots of Airbnb apartments in my time, but this one definitely takes the cake. Despite the price, the kitchen was just a mini-fridge and a hot plate.
And do not get me started on the “luxury” bed. It was basically a sleeping bag on a camping mat.”
Review 8 – The “Pleasant” Surprise
The next funny Airbnb review was from a guest who stayed in a Cartagena, Colombia Airbnb with her family. She expected a pleasant, regular experience.
But to say she got all that and some more would be an understatement. Here is the hilarious review.
“My husband, two young daughters, and I stayed in an Airbnb that was next to our host’s tattoo parlor. The separating wall was thin.
So, throughout the day, we’d hear tough-sounding clients come to get tattooed. Only to end up screaming and cursing while getting inked.
We’d giggle throughout the whole thing, and we also learned more Spanish cuss words than we could ever need.”
Review 9 – The “Romantic” Getaway
The property listing behind this review promised “romantic getaways for two” with “stunning views of the ocean.”
The guest, unfortunately, found that the property was anything but romantic.
“I am not sure about the host’s definition of ‘romantic’, but I’m confident it doesn’t align with mine. The apartment was smaller than it looks in the images.
And the ocean’s view was obstructed by a giant billboard for some local fast-food chain.”
Review 10 – The “Private” Room
The host of the property the guest was talking about in this review promised a “private room with a comfy bed.”
But that isn’t exactly what the guest found after arriving at the destination. Here is the funny review.
“As promised, I expected I was renting a “private” room. As it turned out, however, it was only a closet with a cot.
And hey, when I say “cot,” I mean a plywood piece with a beat up layer of foam on top.
Even worse, the real kicker was when my host walked in unexpectedly while I was asleep. What did he say ‘Oh, don’t mind me.
I’m just here to pick some of my clothes.’ Yeah, so much for privacy.”
Review 11 – The “Two-Word” Review
I don’t know what this guest went through at the property, but he/she definitely sounds done. Here is all the guest had to say.
“Cold Room.”
Review 12 – The “Cozy” Tiny House
The host here promised a “cozy house that had everything a guest would need.” I guess it didn’t have everything this guest needed because this is the funny review left behind.
“While the bed in the bedroom was comfy, the ceiling was so close I could touch it with my nose. I guess it’s my fault for not asking ‘how tiny’ after reading the listing.”
Review 13 – But All Things Considered …
It’s obvious the guest’s experience didn’t tick all the boxes in their expectations. But at least there was a silver lining.
“While the space itself was clean, I could clearly smell the dumpster outside.
I also found a moldy pizza box that I assumed was left in the fridge by previous guests, but the host hadn’t noticed.
Otherwise, the host was nice, and the rooms were quite spacious as advertised.”
Review 14 – The “French” Review
This review was originally left in French, but it was too hilarious to pass up.
“Thank you so much (…). I also want to salute your speed regarding the change of shower head (even if I would have preferred that my 9-year-old daughter did not come across a shirtless man in our bathtub with loud music”
Review 15: The Host with the Most
This last, but by no means least review was for a listing that promised: “a unique experience that’s hard to beat.” And boy, did the host deliver.
Here is what the guest had to say in the review.
“My husband and I came to Spain on vacation. Our host was extremely welcoming. On our last day, he even showed us how to prepare his grandmother’s paella recipe.
On the same day, he also invited his friend Kiko over, who had been recently heartbroken. Kiko moped the whole night as we tried to cheer him up.
After our meal, they offered to drop us off at the airport. Kiko drove, but he played the saddest songs at full volume and was crying most of the way.
We had to keep consoling him while keeping our eyes on the road because our driver wasn’t.”
Conclusion
As you can see, the world of Airbnb reviews is filled with absurd and hilarious stories. We’ve compiled some of our favorites here and we hope you enjoyed them.
Also, as these reviews prove, humor can help in situations where one is frustrated or upset because things didn’t go as planned.
Humor can help diffuse tensions and transform subpar experiences into great stories.
